The Role of the Architect / Specifier

I'm interested to learn more about what people feel BIM has done, and what IPD as done, to encourage owners to alter their thinking about the role of architects and/or specifiers? Are general contractors and construction managers, with BIM knowledge, encouraging owners to consider design capabilities differently? Are architects re-creating themselves to offer BIM services? Does IPD require a re-alignment to emphasize core capabilities of each party in a collaborative fashion?
